One day in the holiday season that has become a family tradition is "Cookie Day." On this day, all the ladies in the family gather to have some fellowship time (while we bake dozens and dozens of cookies!)
This year's participants: Myself, my Mom, my Sister-in-laws Prasti & Jenna, and my little niece Emma. Also in attendance were nephews Ben and Sam. Ben made sure cookies were tasting okay (especially the airplane and star cookies) and Sam looked on and dozed.
The day started early when we arrived at Prasti's at 9am (Thanks for the use of your house.) Mom had already done the prep work of making all the clothespin cookies (mini cream horns) shells. She started on making the filling, I started on the sugar cookie dough, and Prasti started on the cream cheese cookie dough.

It was fun to have our "little helper" this year.
Last year, Emma was old enough to know what tasted good (I got spoiled that day as she sat on my lap asking "More!"). This year, she wanted to help. She donned her apron like the rest of us and pulled up her step stool. She helped me roll out the dough with her own tiny rolling pin, and helped choose cookie cutters to use. At first, I think she was a bit surprised by all the mess that so many women and so many cookie could make, but she got use to it and by the end of the day, was covered in flour herself.

After all the hard work, she decided she deserved a prize (getting to lick off the mixer from the icing.)

After sugar cookies were baked, I set to work decorating. This is my usual place on cookie day. I spend hours making those sugar cookies pretty. Thanks to Prasti and Jenna who helped with the load.
At the end of the day, we had dozens and dozens of cookies (I can't even begin to know how many. I know that we did 7 batches of the sugar cookies) to divide up and bring to family and loved ones. Most of mine were gone in a matter of minutes today at work.
It was a fun day for all. It's not often that all the ladies get a chance to spend the day together, and it's times I cherish.

there are still at least 2 dozen undecorated sugar cookies (ack!)...i think i'll try to finish those up this weekend.
YIKES! Sorry I left you before we could finish the decorating. Hope the rest of your evening was good. (you could always keep the undecorated and do an "ice as you eat" policy)
